Mussel Barge Snapper Safaris was established in Coromandel Town in 1997.
Original owner/operators Roy and Gay Andrews saw the opportunity to develop a charter business after Roy spent many years working on the mussel barges during the week and taking people out fishing on the weekend.
Seeing the need and demand for a solely charter fishing barge they purchased their first vessel in 1997 and haven’t looked back. In 1999, son-in-law Darryl, and wife Megan, moved up from the Hawkes Bay to help them out and in 2008 they purchased the business from Roy and Gay.
In 2002 a new vessel was added to the fleet to cater to the demand, nearly doubling the passenger load.
